ABOUT

Simon is a photographer and architectural researcher based in Munich, Germany.
Considering a combination of these two disciplines, his photographic work focuses essentially on the field of architecture — as a continuous documentation of how place, history and memories come together to inform identity. He is attracted by rather ordinary situations and the phenomena of the everyday life, trying to capture the ephemeral beauty of our human habitat.
As a photographer Simon has a more than 15 year long artistic practice of working in Germany and abroad — his clients include several architectural offices as well as international companies such as Aesop, Carl Hansen & Son, Thonet, Kvadrat and others.

CV

Simon Burko (b. 1983) studied architecture at the Berlin University of the Arts and the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Jerusalem. After graduating in 2011 he worked as an architect for various offices, including Adolf Krischanitz and Max Dudler in Berlin.
Since finishing his studies he has also been active in teaching and research, first at the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg and later at the Technical University of Munich. In 2013 he became a teaching and research associate with Stephen Bates and Bruno Krucker at the Chair of Urban Design and Housing (TUM).
In addition to his activities in practice and teaching, he works as an architectural photographer. In 2016 he founded together with Tuulikki Jäger the → Burko Jaeger collective and → Boo Yeah, both studios for photography with a focus on urban space, architecture and interior.
